Treatment
There’s no “wrong” reason to seek help.
Mental health encompasses a wide range of experiences. These can include anxiety, depression, struggles with self-esteem, relationships, stress management, grief, sleep disturbances, eating habits, or feelings of detachment, among others. Each person is unique and it’s important to have a tailored approach that is going to be most helpful for you as an individual. We would love to help you with whatever it is that’s making things difficult for you.
Some of the more common areas in which we help.
-
Anxiety disorders aren't just feeling nervous or worried. It's when these feelings persist and become so intense that they interfere with your daily life. The experience varies widely for everyone—some people may face specific fears like social situations or panic attacks, while others may have a more generalized, constant anxiety. Physical symptoms, like a racing heart or sweating, can also occur. Different people, different experiences, but all under the umbrella of anxiety disorders.
-
Depression and other mood disorders involve persistent emotional difficulties that can profoundly impact an individual's well-being. They are characterised by symptoms such as prolonged feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities, and disturbances in sleep patterns and appetite. People experiencing mood disorders often struggle with low energy levels, poor concentration, and may even have thoughts of self-harm. The negative effects can extend beyond personal distress, affecting relationships, work or academic performance, and overall quality of life.
-
PTSD typically develops after exposure to a traumatic event involving death, serious injury, or sexual violence. People with PTSD may experience distressing memories, flashbacks, nightmares, and actively avoid reminders of the trauma. They may also exhibit negative changes in mood, cognition, and heightened arousal, such as irritability and hypervigilance.
-
OCD is a condition characterized by intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) that can range from fears about germs or safety, to doubting one's sexuality, or even worrying about causing harm to others. These obsessions often lead to repetitive behaviors or rituals (compulsions) in an attempt to manage the distress.
-
Substance use difficulties arise when the use of substances like alcohol or drugs starts to negatively impact one's life. This can manifest in various ways, such as impaired work or school performance, strained relationships, difficulties in meeting daily responsibilities, or struggling to quit despite a genuine desire to do so.
“The best way to show clients that we care is to use treatments that are supported by the best available research evidence.”
— Bruce E. Wampold, Ph.D.
Empathic psychologists, skilled in multiple evidence-based therapies.
Our treatment approach is designed to accommodate the unique needs and preferences of each individual client. A variety of evidence-based therapies are available, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These therapeutic modalities have been extensively researched and demonstrated to be effective for many people and for a variety of different issues. In all cases, we refer to the most current research and to internationally recognised compendiums of best practice, such as the Cochrane Library and the UK National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. We will work with you to identify the evidence-based treatment option with which you are most comfortable.
In-Person & Telehealth Options
We are committed to delivering high-quality care tailored to your individual needs, offering both in-person and telehealth options. Many people appreciate traditional, in-person sessions and the ease and connection of face-to-face interaction with their psychologist. Alternatively, telehealth sessions via video can offer flexibility and convenience, allowing you to participate in therapy from the comfort of your home. This can be particularly beneficial for those with limited time, mobility constraints, or living in remote or rural areas. For rural clients who may have less frequent access to in-person appointments, telehealth can serve as a helpful supplement to maintain continuity of care. Our practice aims to ensure you receive the necessary support and guidance, no matter your location or circumstances.
