Assessment
Using science to understand human ability, traits and behaviour.
Psychological assessment is a process that uses standardised and scientifically validated tools to evaluate an individual's cognitive, emotional, and behavioural functioning. These assessments help identify strengths and challenges, guiding tailored interventions and support strategies to promote personal growth and enhance overall well-being.

Cognitive Assessment (IQ Testing)
We use the WISC-V ito assess cognitive functioning and intellectual ability in adolescents. For those 17+, we use the WAIS-IV. Both are scientifically validated tests that provides key insights into an individual’s intellectual ability, identifying areas of comparative strength and weakness. It also produces an IQ score which is a measure of overall intelligence.

The Benefits of Cognitive Assessment for Students.
Cognitive assessment offers valuable insights into a student’s intellectual strengths and weaknesses, paving the way for tailored educational interventions and support. For those who are struggling in the classroom, these evaluations can identify learning disabilities or cognitive challenges, enabling targeted assistance to address specific areas of difficulty. Conversely, cognitive assessments can also uncover exceptional abilities, highlighting unique talents and potential. In both cases, these assessments provide crucial information for educators and parents, empowering them to create personalised learning plans that foster each child's academic success and personal growth.

Assessment FAQs
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not required but it’s quite common for schools, employers or GPs to provide one. The important thing is for us to know the questions and concerns you, your school or employer have, and then we can determine the appropriate approach to testing. Contact us to discuss your needs.
How much does it cost?
Assessment services (like our treatment services) are billed on an hourly basis (or part thereof). We will provide you with a fixed quotation prior to your appointment to provide certainty and peace of mind.
What’s involved?
The amount of time required depends on the areas that are being assessed. By way of example, cognitive testing for a school student would typically involve two hours of face-to-face testing, followed by approximately four hours of report writing and then a one-hour session to explain and interpret results.
What happens afterwards?
In some circumstances (with your consent), it is appropriate for us to engage with your school or employer after testing. This may be to explain results to them, often in order to seek appropriate additional support for you or your child. If appropriate, we can discuss such follow-up during your debrief session.
